It has been reported in recent days that 32-year-old Berbatov could be on his way to Camp Nou when the transfer window reopens as Barca coach Gerardo Martino looks for cover following Messi's hamstring tear that is expected to keep him sidelined for up to eight weeks.
But Messi does not believe the Bulgaria international will be joining him in Spain.
"I haven’t heard the rumour that Berbatov is linked to Barcelona," the Argentine ace told TV7.
"In fact he is a good player, he has experience in a big team.
"It’s not my business to interfere with the club’s transfer decisions but I think it’s impossible for Dimitar to join Barcelona."
Berbatov is out of contract at the end of the season and is one of several forwards who has been linked with Barcelona recently.
